NEW DATA ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF LEPIDOPTERA IN MONTENEGRO, WITH A REVIEW OF ABERRANT FORMS

During the three-year period of investigations, species from the families Depressariidae Meyrick, 1883, Pyralidae Latreille, 1809, Crambidae Latreille, 1810, Lycaenidae Leach, 1815, Nymphalidae Rafinesque, 1815, Geometridae Leach, 1815 and Erebidae Leach, 1815 were investigated. Investigations were carried out in 20 localities, distributed throughout the entire territory of Montenegro. Two species are listed for Montenegro for the first time: Hypoxystis pluviaria (Fabricius, 1787) and Aspitates ochrearia (Rossi, 1794).

A CRITICAL REVIEW OF THE CURRENT CHECKLIST OF BUTTERFLIES OF SERBIA

The latest checklist of butterflies of Serbia (Papilionoidea Latreille, 1802) by Popović & Verovnik (2018) is examined. In consistencies with regard to the cited literature and applied systematics are pointed out. The validity of the viewpoints of the above mentioned authors on the species Leptidea juvernica Williams, 1946, Pyrgus trebevicensis (Warren, 1926), Erebia manto (Denis Schiffermüller, 1775) and Melitaea ornata Christoph, 1893 is discussed. It is shown that by imposing new Serbian names to butterflies disregards national and scientific heritage.

ADDITIONAL DATA ON LEPIDOPTERA FROM SERBIA

This work reports on results from occasional collections in many sites of Serbia in the period 2015-2018., as well as one earlier material from 1982. By more than 50 excursions, from March to October, by day and night and by light traps, a total amount of 45 selected species of Lepidoptera from 10 families were caught. A full list and description of the localities of collection, some color plates and the comment about some species apart relevant are also included.

MONITORING BUTTERFLY BIODIVERSITY ON PRIME BUTTERFLY AREA Avala Mt. (Serbia) BY THE TRANSECT METHOD (Pollard Walks) IN THE YEAR 2017

An inventory of butterfly fauna was carried out in 2017 within the north-western part of the Prime Butterfly Area “Avala Mt.”. Butterfly fauna was surveyed with a transect method from March until October within three sectors with different land use and plant succession. We evaluated the sectors by butterfly species richness, abundance of individuals, species accumulation curves, Shannon index, ecological and zoogeographical characteristics. A total of 1147 individuals were recorded, representing 50 species. Three new species (Pieris mannii (Mayer, 1851), Satyrium acaciae (Fabricius, 1787) and Kirinia roxelana (Cramer, 1777)) for the fauna of Avala Mt. were discovered that now counts 114 species. Abandoned dry grasslands in the process of secondary succession supported the highest number of species and individuals. Nevertheless, the observed butterfly species on Avala Mt. were almost equally characteristic for grasslands (38.4%) and forests (34.3%). In conclusion, butterfly biodiversity on Avala Mt. depends on habitat diversity, which is a combination of climax forest vegetation as well as formerly agricultural landscapes in different stages of secondary succession.

A CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE OF THE BALKAN LEPIDOPTERA. SOME PYRALOIDEA (LEPIDOPTERA: CRAMBIDAE & PYRALIDAE) ENCOUNTERED RECENTLY IN SOUTHERN SERBIA, MONTENEGRO, THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA AND ALBANIA

Pyraloidea (Lepidoptera: Crambidae & Pyralidae) were sampled in the territories of southern Serbia, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania on a total of 53 occasions during 2014, 2016 and 2017. A total of 173 species is reported here, comprising 97 Crambidae and 76 Pyralidae. Based upon published data, 29 species appear to be new to the fauna of Serbia, 5 species are new to the fauna of Macedonia and 37 are new to the fauna of Albania. The data are discussed.

CAVE MOTH AND BUTTERFLY FAUNA (Insecta: Lepidoptera) OF SERBIA: CURRENT STATE AND FUTURE PROSPECTS

A history of the study of Lepidoptera in caves in Serbia is given. On this basis, a comparative analysis with Lepidoptera species in neighboring countries – Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria, was carried out. The presence of cavernicolous habitats and ecological niches suitable for Lepidoptera was investigated. There is a need to investigate these groups of organisms in Serbia and it is suggested that caves in Serbia be a priority in this research.

NEW CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF LEPIDORTERA FAUNA OF KOSOVO AND METOHIA (REPUBLIC OF SERBIA)

Seven species of Lepidoptera – Triodia sylvina (Linnaeus, 1761), Trichiura crataegi (Linnaeus, 1758), Eriogaster lanestris (Linnaeus, 1758), Endromis versicolora (Linnaeus, 1758), Caradrina clavipalpis (Scopoli, 1763), Polymixis rufocincta (Gayer, 1828) and Oria musculosa (Hübner, 1808) were recorded for the first time in Kosovo and Metohia, Republic of Serbia. The next seven species- Trichiura crataegi (Linnaues, 1758), Lycia graecarius (Staudinger, 1861), Biston strataria (Hufnagel, 1767), Agriopis aurantiaria (Hübner, 1799), Erannis defoliaria (Clerck, 1759), Parasemia plantaginis (Linnaeus, 1758) and Euplagia quadripunctaria (Poda, 1761) were confirmed for the same area. Besides detailed faunistic data, illustrations of some adults are given.

ZOOGEOGRAPHICAL REGIONALIZATION OF THE SERBIA ACCORDING TO THE AFFINITY OF LOCAL FAUNAS OF THE SKIPPERS AND BUTTERFLIES (LEPIDOPTERA: HESPERIOIDEA & PAPILIONOIDEA)

Integrated list of skippers and butterflies of Serbia is shown. We also conducted faunal analyses of established species. Based on previous research, some regions have been identified as center of certain faunal groups. Degree of similarity of selected areas is established by Jaccard index method. By Cluster analyses has identified links between isolated areas. Specific faunal elements of certain areas have been separated – they are diferencial species. Summerazing the obtain results, zoogeographical map of the skippers and butterflies of Serbia is done.
